📅 Project Timeline

June 2026
In the remote village of Las Lagunetas, nestled in the mountains of Chiquimula, Guatemala, families have faced the difficult choice between buying food and paying for transportation to the nearest town due to the economic shutdown caused by Covid-19. Thanks to your support, we have launched a direct food delivery program that brings essential staples directly to homes in Las Lagunetas. Our local team now makes trips along the winding mountain roads, delivering sacks of rice, beans, cooking oil, fresh produce, and hygiene products to homes that previously lacked them. What moves us most is seeing the joy on the children's faces when they see our truck approaching; they know it means their family will have food on the table. When families have reliable access to nutritious food, children can focus on learning instead of worrying about their next meal, and parents can invest their limited resources in other critical needs such as health and education. Your generosity is literally feeding hope in Las Lagunetas, one delivery at a time.

About the Community

The village of Lagunetas, located in the municipality of San Juan Ermita, Chiquimula, sits in an area of irregular topography with a predominantly warm climate, characteristic of the Dry Corridor of the Chortí region. With an approximate population of 1,200, its economy is based on subsistence agriculture, with the seasonal production of corn and beans as its mainstays, complemented by small-scale coffee production in the higher elevations and the raising of small livestock. In the education sector, the community has infrastructure for primary and preschool levels, which requires constant attention for structural improvements and sanitation to ensure adequate learning conditions. Public health is managed through preventative measures that prioritize access to safe water, using collection and filtration systems to reduce recurrent gastrointestinal illnesses in the area. Transportation in Lagunetas is difficult; although there are routes connecting it to the municipal seat of San Juan Ermita, the unpaved roads present transit challenges during the rainy season, limiting the flow of local commerce. The village's development is geared towards climate resilience and the optimization of its basic services to reduce the socio-economic vulnerability of its inhabitants.
