📅 Project Timeline

June 2026
When our team first visited the small school in Valle de la Escuela, nestled in the mountains of Chiquimula's San Jacinto municipality, the challenges were immediately clear. Students were learning in a space that desperately needed attention, with infrastructure barriers standing between these eager young minds and the education they deserved. The community had been waiting for improvements that would give their children the foundation they need to thrive. Thanks to your generous support, we've been able to partner with this determined community to address these essential school improvements. Working alongside local families and educators, our team has focused on creating a learning environment where students can focus on their studies rather than the limitations of their physical space. The transformation happening in Valle de la Escuela reflects the power of community collaboration—when resources meet local determination, remarkable change becomes possible. The impact extends far beyond the school walls. Parents speak with pride about the renewed sense of hope they see in their children, and teachers report a tangible difference in the learning atmosphere. This project represents more than infrastructure—it's an investment in the future leaders, innovators, and changemakers of rural Guatemala, one classroom at a time.

About the Community

The Valle de la Escuela Sector is located on the outskirts of the village of Ticanlú, San Jacinto, in a valley area that, while less rugged than the municipality's peaks, is fully integrated into the semi-arid climate of the Dry Corridor. With a population of 259, its economy is based primarily on family farming of staple grains (corn and beans) and informal employment in construction or services in the nearby town center. In terms of education, this sector is an important hub for community cohesion, as its school infrastructure serves children from the lower-lying areas. Recently, projects have focused on upgrading classrooms and basic services to improve student retention. Regarding health, the community implements preventative measures aimed at the safe storage of water, seeking to mitigate scarcity during the dry season. It also has a health post that serves other sectors of the village. Mobility is facilitated by its location in the valley, allowing more consistent vehicle access to the municipal seat, although the internal roads require regular maintenance to prevent isolation due to dust or mud. The development of the area depends on the consolidation of its public services, especially the improvement of the educational facilities that give the area its name.
