📅 Project Timeline

June 2026
Because our school is located on a steep hill with a curved road and a sharp incline, preschool children (ages 3 to 6) faced a terrifyingly high risk of fatal traffic accidents every single day. A single moment of distraction could lead to a tragedy. Thanks to your vital support, we have successfully constructed a sturdy physical perimeter barrier using galvanized metal mesh and pipes. This structure completely secures the facilities against unauthorized entry and creates a safe, enclosed environment. Most importantly, it gives the teacher full control over the children's stay and departure, entirely eliminating the possibility of a child running into the road. Thank you for protecting our youngest students and providing their families with priceless peace of mind!

About the Community

The village of Escalón Arriba, located in the high, mountainous region of San Jacinto, Chiquimula, is characterized by rugged terrain and a climate that ranges from temperate to warm. Its economy depends on mountain agriculture, where coffee production and subsistence crops (corn and beans) are the mainstays of income for local families. In terms of education, the village has a preschool and a primary school. Healthcare management focuses on home-based prevention, especially on access to and storage of potable water through tanks and filters to mitigate the risk of disease in an area with limited water access. Currently, residents must travel to the health center in the urban area for medical care. Mobility presents one of the greatest challenges, as communication with the municipal capital is via steep roads, requiring two-wheel or four-wheel drive vehicles depending on the season. The community's development is closely linked to improving the road network and strengthening public infrastructure to reduce isolation and facilitate the sale of its agricultural products.
