📅 Project Timeline

June 2026
Every time it rained, our school faced a frustrating and dangerous crisis. Uncontrolled rainwater runoff from the roofs caused recurring flooding in the central area and the sports field. This standing water completely blocked traffic, slowly damaged the building's infrastructure, and seriously jeopardized the school's hygiene and sanitation. Thanks to your generous support, we have successfully implemented a perimeter drainage system. Using high capacity PVC pipes, the system collects rainwater directly from the roofs and efficiently channels it away from common areas, directly into the storm drain system. Even during the most intense tropical storms, the school center and the sports field will remain completely dry and accessible. Thank you for protecting the foundations of our classrooms and ensuring a safe, puddle free playground where our children can play and learn freely.

About the Community

The population is 1,037, according to the Ministry of Health. The urban area serves as the main administrative and service center for the region. Its economy is more diversified than that of the villages, based on formal and informal commerce, the provision of government services, and the receipt of remittances, although it maintains a strong connection to the collection and distribution of regional agricultural production. In the educational sphere, it concentrates the provision of secondary and vocational education (such as INED), receiving students from various rural communities seeking technical training. Healthcare is centralized at the local Health Center, which coordinates epidemiological surveillance and urban sanitation campaigns. Mobility is fluid compared to rural areas, with paved roads that facilitate the constant transit of motorcycle taxis and heavy transport vehicles connecting to the route to Chiquimula and Esquipulas. Current urban development focuses on the modernization of public buildings, solid waste management, and the improvement of school infrastructure to meet the growing demand of the urban student population.
