📅 Project Timeline

June 2026
In the heart of San Jacinto, Chiquimula, something wonderful happened at José Ángel Palma School. Walking into the classrooms, you would have seen children hunched over makeshift writing surfaces some balancing notebooks on their laps, others sharing cramped spaces that made focusing on lessons nearly impossible. But thanks to your support, that picture has completely changed. The delivery of sturdy new desks has transformed not just the physical learning environment, but the energy of the entire school community. Teachers tell us that students now arrive earlier and stay more engaged throughout the day. "You can see the pride in their faces," shared one educator, watching as children carefully arranged their materials on their new work surfaces. The desks aren't just furniture they're a foundation for dignity, focus, and the kind of quality education every child deserves. This project in San Jacinto represents the ripple effect of community-centered change. When children have proper learning conditions, they thrive. When they thrive, families see new possibilities. And when families believe in education's power, entire communities begin to transform. Your partnership made this transformation possible, one desk and one student's future at a time.

About the Community

The population is 1,037, according to the Ministry of Health. The urban area serves as the main administrative and service center for the region. Its economy is more diversified than that of the villages, based on formal and informal commerce, the provision of government services, and the receipt of remittances, although it maintains a strong connection to the collection and distribution of regional agricultural production. In the educational sphere, it concentrates the provision of secondary and vocational education (such as INED), receiving students from various rural communities seeking technical training. Healthcare is centralized at the local Health Center, which coordinates epidemiological surveillance and urban sanitation campaigns. Mobility is fluid compared to rural areas, with paved roads that facilitate the constant transit of motorcycle taxis and heavy transport vehicles connecting to the route to Chiquimula and Esquipulas. Current urban development focuses on the modernization of public buildings, solid waste management, and the improvement of school infrastructure to meet the growing demand of the urban student population.
