📅 Project Timeline

June 2026
Our community faces a critical challenge: a severe shortage and highly irregular water supply. Because families lacked large-capacity containers, they were completely unable to store enough water to get through droughts or sudden supply failures, turning basic daily survival into a constant struggle. Thanks to your incredible support, we have successfully provided forty families with specialized home storage systems! These water tanks allow them to collect and store large volumes of water in a completely hygienic and safe manner. Today, these families have gained true water security and autonomy. They now have a constant, reliable reserve that reduces their dependence on the daily supply and drastically improves home hygiene by keeping their water completely protected from external contaminants. Thank you for bringing stability, health, and peace of mind into their homes!

About the Community

The village of Escalón Arriba, located in the high, mountainous region of San Jacinto, Chiquimula, is characterized by rugged terrain and a climate that ranges from temperate to warm. Its economy depends on mountain agriculture, where coffee production and subsistence crops (corn and beans) are the mainstays of income for local families. In terms of education, the village has a preschool and a primary school. Healthcare management focuses on home-based prevention, especially on access to and storage of potable water through tanks and filters to mitigate the risk of disease in an area with limited water access. Currently, residents must travel to the health center in the urban area for medical care. Mobility presents one of the greatest challenges, as communication with the municipal capital is via steep roads, requiring two-wheel or four-wheel drive vehicles depending on the season. The community's development is closely linked to improving the road network and strengthening public infrastructure to reduce isolation and facilitate the sale of its agricultural products.
